"I’d like to begin with a few words by a man I did not know personally but who, I’ve been told, had been one of the passionate guardians of the Strandja Mountain. And of the Veleka river, yet untouched by human incursion. He had been called “the Miracle” for his wondrous disposition and charisma. His are the words: “there is no wilderness, there is wild humanity”.

Until this day I still believe that the most substantial purpose of this festival is exactly this – to commemorate nature by showing it to the world through the means of cinema.

The movies we see here – today and throughout the years since the festivals inauguration – illustrate, recount tales of various places and countries; reveal in characters people and customs, traditions and beliefs, exotic and enchanting places and events. It is as if history doesn’t cease to surprise us with vicissitudes of destinies both close and distant, engraved in highs and lows, having left behind the signs and symbols for us, humans, to unriddle and make sense of through the means of cinema. And cinema’s possibilities are endless.

I, hereby, welcome the participants and their films, I welcome the guests and the jury and I sense the enjoyment they will experience by the presented creations. I look forward to the interesting discussions, as I am certain it will be quite an effort to distinguish the best among so many good pieces. And, in advance, I wish to all success and productive days ahead! For I am certain that, by participating in this festival, every one of us will contribute towards preserving the wilderness from the wild humanity."
